Conservation of old or damaged woodwork is something I do a lot of. Lately, we are being asked more and more to repair and conserve old windows, stairs, doors etc, instead of just replacing them with new timber or uPVC.
This is especially important in listed buildings and old houses where the majority of the timber is still sound. In cases such as this it is worth considering the removal of rotten timber and damaged sashes instead of the replacement of the whole unit.
With an old or elaborate staircase we may be able to remove a damaged section and replace with new wood which can be worked to match the original.
One of our more challenging projects was a copy of a portico for the front door of a Grade 2* listed building in Pembrokeshire. See the photo here. In the same property the front door frame and the sash windows were also in need of attention.
I am happy to consider any work of this nature. Please contact me if I can help.
This is a copy of an existing portico on a Grade 2* listed building. It is made from iroko and is to be painted to blend it back into the building.
